Botswana’s National AIDS Coordinating Agency (NACA) Friday said that it was intensifying HIV prevention services during the upcoming African youth games.
NACA Public Relations Officer, Lorato Mongatane said during the duration of the games, condoms will also be distributed among other services, including HIV Counseling and Testing, condom education and adolescent sexual and reproductive health services.
She said sport has proven to be an exceptional platform with which to raise awareness on HIV and AIDS issues and to help inform people about how to protect themselves against HIV infection.
Meanwhile the Chief Executive Officer of the Botswana Africa Youth Games Organizing Committee (BAYGOG) Tuelo Serufho told the media on Friday that the country is ready to welcome top young athletes in Africa.
More than 2 500 junior athletes and officials are expected to jet into the landlocked Southern Africa nation starting this week for the youth games played in an Olympic format.
The games will be held from May 22 to 31 with 54 African countries competing in 21 sports.
