AFCON 2015 Qualifying: Burundi 0 - 0 Botswana
Burundi failed to take advantage of ten man Botswana when they were held to a 0-0 in an exciting and fast paced match played at the Prince Louis Rwafosore Stadium in Bujumbura
Burundi who have been riding high after featuring in the Chan tournament hosted by South Africa, could not take advantage playing at home as Botswana's coach Peter James Butler had other plans, frustrating their hosts and packing the defence to perhaps capitalise in the second round match to be played on June 1st.
The red card to Botswana's Oscar Ncenga was the turning point of the game as Botswana did not let the one man disadvantage affect their plans as they pushed Burundi defenders who huffed and puffed trying thwart the silky Botswana midfielders as they tried to get the elusive away goal.
The second half was a see-saw affair as Burundi came back into the match buoyed by their massive home support as they bayed for the blood of their visitors, who however remained relentless as they fought to hold on to the draw amid tight marking and time wasting tactics from both sides.
The draw away in Bujumbura comes as advantage to Botswana who only need a goal at home to qualify for the second round in the 2015 African cup of nations qualifers .
Zebras coach Peter James Butler was full of praise for his players, saying, "I am pleased how my players conducted themselves especially playing away from home.
"It was a tough match but i am pleased we worked very hard and the players followed my game plan as they held on despite the red card to our player.
"We could have finished off the game in the first half but we were unlucky but we hope to make amends and get the elusive goals in the second leg at home."
